Confessions of a Shopaholic

I have read this Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella when the book first came out. I really enjoyed reading all the series. I read them many many times.

And.. Today, I've watched the movie.

Umm.. the movie was.....okay..

But, I would have liked the movie if I hadn’t read the fantastic series. The movie does not do the book any justice!! =(
Well... I already know that the movie isn't a scene-by-scene recreation of the book. Of course, films are very different from books. But..there were just so many scenes that were not even exist in the book!! =(
(I got a lil' bit upset for a moment..huhu)
Like, in the book, there are no talking mannequins beckoning and convincing Becky to shop, and Luke isn’t her boss, and her fantastic article isn’t about shoes and investment accounts!

Soo different lar.

I would have loved to see Sophie's own creation put up onto the screen word-for-word with not one syllable changed..but what to do.. the director of this movie- P.J Hogan somehow had to change some of the plotlines (which turned out to be so infuriating!). I really really hope the second one- Shopaholic Takes Manhattan would be so much more brilliant than this!

The only moment that I can remember that is exactly extracted from the novel was the very first scene in the book - where Becky sits at her desk and opens her credit card bills. - I got really excited! All those stories that I read and last coming to life!! =)

Anyhow.. the movie's alright. I wouldn't recommend it to the fans of the book, though.

Oh btw, it's true what this writer said: Becky Bloomwood is the dumbed down version of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde.. Isla Fisher has downgraded Becky Bloomwood into a stereotypical, silly female wrapped in pink.
Hmmm... =(

For those of you who does not have any idea about this book that I'm talking about, you can read the synopsis:

“Becky Bloomwood has what most twenty-five-year-olds only dream of: a flat in London’s trendiest neighborhood, a troupe of glamorous socialite friends, and a closet brimming with the season’s must haves. The only trouble is, she can’t actually afford it - not any of it. Her job writing at Successful Savings magazine not only bores her to tears, it doesn’t pay much at all. Still, how can she resist that perfect pair of shoes? Or the divine silk blouse in the window of that ultra-trendy boutique? But lately Becky’s been chased by dismal letters from Visa and the Endwich Bank - letters with large red sums she can’t bear to read - and they’re getting ever harder to ignore. She tries cutting backs; she even tries making more money. But none of her efforts succeeds. Her only consolation is to buy herself something…just a little something…"

Oh, I'm soo glad I read the series cuz the stories are so much more better! (But I still love the movie.. if not bcuz of the cutest Isla Fisher!) hehe =)

P/s: That green Danny & George scarf wasn't anything like what I imagined it would be. Not that nice pun..huhu =P

P/ss: And that Hugh Dancy is sooooo handsome and cute lar!! He does suit to be Luke Brandon! I'm soo happy.. hehe

  1. True.

I was a bit disappointed jugak.
At first, I thought it's gonna be the same, but dah melalut sampai Luke jadi boss dia, and I was like ? hang on a second, this is not the story !

I watched it few weeks ago, as am in Australia ( and just because Isla is Australian, hence the film screening awal lah kat sini. Aussie kan Kiasu hahahahahaah ).

  2. Biasa la..Movie yang adapted from book(s) tak kan jadi best macam buku.Macam Harry Potter.Tapi nasib baik semua movie Harry Potter best.

I tengok trailer and pics this movie je pun dah agak tak sebest buku.Tengok outfit and wardrobe je pun dah cukup.I imagined Becky pakai lain.Tapi tengok outfit dalam movie OTT dan ada macam clown jugak.

But still, tetap nak tengok! :p

  3. yep.totally agree with u guys. totally not the same version and not what i wud imagine.haish. the same thing mcm once happen for ps i love you movie dlu. tak same pon mcm novel!!! frustrated gile. oh and i always pictured luke mcm kent (as in barbie and kent)tapi hugh dancy pon cute juge!

  4. that's why i always steer away from movie yg based on book. slalu tk best. becky bloomwood by isla fisher tu cm not as i imagine in the book. outfits pn cm ridiculous gile.

  5. o0oo oo0ooh... i've been wanting to warn u about the movie,u know, not to expect too much from it, cuz i'm in the uk, and the movie was released a couple of weeks ago.but i forgot to do so..

haish, imagine how disappointed i was after spending 10pounds (rm55?im not sure) to watch it. geram betol. heheh.

oh well, we can just hope for a better sequel. nice blog, anyway. been your reader for quite some time. cheers!

  6. hmmm...
